Panama

The first thing that comes to everyone's mind when they hear Panama, is the Panama Canal.  This is an amazing wonder was completed thanks to Theodore Roosevelt's dedication to get the project, started and stopped by many other countries, finished!  There are many other options for tours in Panama if your ship stops there, including:
  • The Panama Canal Observation museum
  • Panama Canal transit via ferry
  • Gatun Lake Safari
  • Panama Railroad domed cars, journey along the canal.
  • Panama City tour.
  • City of Portobelo
  • Monkey Watch Tour
  • Embera Indian National Park

The Panama Canal Tour

This tour was pricey, but there was no way we were coming all this way and not experiencing it! It began by taking a bus from Colon to Gamboa where we boarded our ferry.   Lunch was included on our journey through the canal.  We had a fabulous guide who gave us a detailed history of the Country of Panama, as well as the construction of the canal and locks.  The French began the construction in the late 1800s but gave up, the United States completed the project and took ownership of the canal.  Finally, in the year 2000 the United States officially gave the canal back to the country of Panama.  We ended the journey in Panama City, on the Pacific Side, and boarded another bus to ride back to Colon on the Caribbean side.
