You may have seen the ads grace your Facebook feed here and there. Maybe you haven't. For the last few years I have been keeping an eye on something called Little Passports. These are technically subscription boxes for kids to teach them about the world. While in the midst of a pandemic, they decided to gather together some of their more popular activities from those subscription boxes and make Summer Camp boxes for use at home. My kids are home with me this summer and work is slow... okay, well, pretty much non-existent with all the travel bans at this time. They arrived yesterday and I am excited to start using them with my older son. They do make kits for younger ages too, but I decided to start with these. |
A Little About Both Packs
Summer Camp in a Box: Science Junior
| When I first opened the box for the science kit I was a little disappointed. The included "backpack" was a small pouch-like bag. In my head I assumed they had to cut back due to COVID. Oh well, things happen. I get it. Then as I unzipped the little bag I realized that it WAS the backpack. It was folded inside of itself! |
Summer Camp in a Box: World Edition
The geography set, as I refer to it, comes with a cute little suitcase to store everything in. It was smaller than I expected, but still large enough to hold everything. You can see the size comparison with the paper next to it. The paper is a standard 8.5 x 11 inch sheet. All of the "Day One" activities come in the suitcase. Subsequent day's activities are in their own padded envelopes and can be added to the suitcase as you go on. This kit uses a Passport for the kids to complete as they go along. I know my son will like this part of it. I'll even break out his real passport to show him what it looks like inside and how it works in real life. (I usually hold the family's passports when we travel, so they don't get lost.) |
