The Cruise Line Industry Association (CLIA) bestows certification upon travel agents and agencies. CLIA itself is an organization made up of executives from each of the major member cruise lines, along with the member travel agencies. Each level of accreditation is a little different but each must be accomplished within a 2-year window. Here's a basic run down:
Accredited Cruise Counsellor
2 in-person or online courses.
50 credits of elective training courses. Courses are usually 10-15 credits each.
2 personal cruises; one 2-6 day and one 7+ day.
5 ship inspections.
25 staterooms booked.
Master Cruise Counsellor
50 credits of mandatory training that includes: 3 case studies, Cruise3Sixty Conference; or Trainingfest
30 credits of elective training.
2 personal cruises of 7+ days.
3 ship inspections.
40 staterooms booked.
Elite Cruise Counsellor
150 credits from live or in-person courses.
1 personal cruise of 7+ days.
5 ship inspections.
50 staterooms booked.

I earned my ACC in 2011, MCC in 2012, and then took a break to have my son. Now I'm back in the game and aiming for my ECC and LCS too!
